Whether your connection dates back to the first remarkable services at Orchard and Broadway in Littleton, to the growing congregation on Colorado Boulevard where Cherry Hills Christian School began, or to Cherry Hills at its current home on Grace Boulevard in Highlands Ranch, we welcome you to our 30 Years of Grace celebration.

Orchard Road

The first Sunday service at 90 East Orchard Road was blessed with good weather and two nervous founding pastors, Jim Dixon and Bob Beltz. Their co-founder Bo Mitchell says he never had any doubts about the potential of this new church. With nearly 350 people in attendance, an influential church, started by three young men filled with hope, was born.

The original staff of five didn’t expect, nor particularly desire, a big church. “We thought 350-500 people, ultimately, would be a good size,” says Jim. Instead, his vision for the church was spiritual. That vision resonated with the people who came.

Colorado Boulevard

Only eight months after the inaugural Sunday, church leadership had already found a new facility in an unused elementary school located at Hampden and Colorado Boulevard in Cherry Hills Village.

The first Sunday worship service at Colorado Boulevard, held on September 9, 1985, more than 1000 people attended. By 1987, attendance had expanded to more than 2500 and the church was holding three services, with adult education classes held at Denver Seminary and buses shuttling to and from three separate parking lots.

Grace Boulevard

In the early 1990s, growing pains lead leadership to explore yet another relocation. On June 12, 1994, at the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Highlands Ranch property, Jim spoke of Christ’s strong commitment to building his church.Jim was invited to name the street in front of the new facility, and he chose Grace Boulevard. When the church opened its new doors on July 30, 1995, thousands of people attended worship, many of them new to Cherry Hills.

There is no business model to explain the growth experienced on Orchard Road, Colorado Boulevard and even now on Grace Boulevard—the story that is Cherry Hills Community Church. As Dutch Franz would say, it is all due to the grace of God.

"They will celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness."
Psalm 145:7
