Kingdom Knitters

Ministry by Women is pleased to support The Kingdom Knitters. A group of knitters whose prayer shawls, baby blankets and chemo caps are given to people who are ill, grieving or just in need of comfort. Each item is prayed over and anointed prior to being given to recipients.

The patterns below are available for download.

Prayer prayed while an item is being knitted:

Dear Lord, please bless these needles of mine.

That I may make a gift of strength, faith, health and love.

Give this gift the ability to comfort, the ability to heal, the ability to give strength where it is needed and of your will it to be.

May the recipient be able to know that you are with them and that they are not alone.

That they are cared for and loved and prayed for.

That your loving arms are around them, to protect them for whatever reason they should need, whenever they put this gift on.

Lord, thank-you for the blessings that this gift is given. Amen

Prayer for recipient

May God’s grace be upon this gift warming, comforting, enfolding and embracing.

May this mantle be a safe haven…a sacred place of security, and well being..

Sustaining, and embracing in good times as well as difficult ones.

May the one who receives this gift be cradled in hope, kept in joy, graced with peace, and wrapped in love. Amen

Stories

“I think it was the morning of day 3 or 4 when Brett Garretson walked into my hospital room with a mysterious package. I was so glad to see him and really curious about the package. We began opening it together and when I tore through the tissue paper and saw the red color I began to weep. I didn't even know what it was -- I just felt so loved and cared for at that moment – realizing someone had sent me this beautiful gift. I quickly learned it was a Prayer Shawl knitted by a group of praying women in our church. What a gift! I was thrilled to know that I was receiving one and that it was a reminder and a tangible object that connected me to many people who were praying for me and my medical situation. I started out being scared – not knowing what was going to happen from one moment to the next and not knowing the outcome. I did come to realize that God knew all about it long before I arrived in the hospital and that He was present with me throughout the entire ordeal. No matter the outcome, I was being held in His hands. I'm three weeks without an episode, a little anemic but gaining strength everyday. Thank you, church family, for your prayers, cards, phone calls, visits, meals and unselfish acts of kindness.”

Stories from the Kingdom Knitters
as shared by Pastors Brett Garretson

Brett went to see a 75 year old lady who had recently had to start using a wheelchair and had fallen and hurt her shoulder. When Brett went to see her she was despondent, and in need of prayer. Brett took with him one of our lap robes that had been prayed over and anointed by our Wednesday Night Intercessors. When he gave her the robe, telling her about it, she was so happy and said that it was exactly the right color and she loved it. He said it was a real boost for her.
