HOPE studies

Jung Dangshing

"I work with Frontier Labourers for Christ (FLC) in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and for the past 22 years I have ministered as an evangelist and Barefoot Doctor to the Hilltribes people of Thailand. I also act as translator and project coordinator for FLC. I am Rawang, and I come from the village of Putao in northern Burma.

"In August of 2007, I came to America to begin my studies at Colorado Christian University (CCU) in Lakewood, Colorado. I am majoring in Bible and Christian leadership and management. I want to earn a Bachelor’s degree while at CCU. It is because of churches like Cherry Hills Community Church that I can pursue this dream.

"While at CCU, I devote myself to studying and understanding God’s Word. I want to know God better, so that I can lead and teach God’s people. When I complete my studies, I plan to return to Chiang Mai to continue serving with FLC at their Leadership Training Center. There I will teach Bible and leadership to Christian leaders. I will train the next generation of pastors and Christian leaders in taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Asia.

As the Apostle Paul said in his letter to the Ephesians, 4:12, we are 'Preparing them for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.'"

Frontier Labourers for Christ

Serving Thailand, Myanmar and Laos

Frontier Labourers for Christ (FLC) is a non-denominational, evangelical Christian mission based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. FLC's goal is to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the tribal peoples of the Golden Triangle, which is a region that encompasses Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Laos.

FLC was founded by Daniel and Beverley Kalnin in 1979 on their vision to uplift the tribal peoples of the Golden Triangle. FLC serves the people through a holistic approach to evangelism, which includes church planting, leadership training, crop substitution programs, village development and the Barefoot Doctors programs.

Bible Training Programs

Bible training schools are held in Chiang Mai at the Frontier Leadership School and in towns and villages for national evangelists and teachers. The mission utilizes a culturally relevant theological and practical curriculum. The training schools use pastors, teachers, and skilled workers from North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. Agricultural conferences for farmers, special conferences for language groups, Christian family seminars and youth meetings are also part of this training program.

Leadership School

FLC owns close to 50 acres of beautiful mango orchards located just 25 minutes outside of Chiang Mai. FLC's dream is to finish building a multi-purpose training campus here that will teach Bible and other practical vocations to tribal leaders. OrchardPlans are already underway for the construction of the second building on the property. This training school will equip leaders to transform Southeast Asia.

The Barefoot Doctors Program

FLC holds a three-year training school for village leaders from both Thailand and the most remote parts of Myanmar where there are no medical facilities. Medical doctors and health care professionals train village leaders to perform diagnosis, treat common tropical ailments and provide basic dental care. These leaders are then sent back to their villages with medicines supplied through the mission. Barefoot Doctors have been credited with saving thousands of lives and providing an open door for evangelism.

FLC is comprised almost entirely of well-trained local staff who know the languages and intricacies of the tribal culture. FLC partners with American and Canadian churches, individuals and organizations to bring the gospel message to the Golden Triangle. FLC has successfully completed projects with Project CURE, IDEAS, Samaritan's Purse, World Vision and other organizations.
