I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
- Matthew 25:36
Join our Prison Ministry to reach out to inmates with the love of Jesus. There are a variety of opportunities for both men and women to serve including: Bible studies, mentoring youth and adults both in prison and upon release, visiting and worshiping with inmates and providing Christmas gifts for children of incarcerated parents. The vision of the Prison Ministry is to provide a variety of opportunities to “visit those in prison.” We see six areas in which we can engage:
- Supporting prison chaplains
- Encouraging Christian inmates
- Mentoring youth in detention centers
- Mentoring those leaving the prison and the detention centers
- Coming along side families that are affected by a family member that is incarcerated
- Praying for those involved with prison life.
Our strategy for accomplishing our vision is to work with ministries that have expertise in each area:
- Work with Good News Jail and Prison Ministry (“Good News”) to support Prison Chaplains
- Encourage Christian men and women inmates through Good News mission trips to the correctional facilities, beginning in Colorado
- Mentor youth and share the Gospel in detention centers, working with Youth for Christ and Friends for Youth
- Mentor those that are leaving prisons and detention centers as a Cherry Hills-driven ministry, working along side the prison ministries with whom we have relationships
- Come along side families affected by a family member that is incarcerated, primarily through Prison Fellowships and Angel Tree. In mentoring those leaving the correctional life we will also mentor their families as is prudent in each individual case
- Commit to pray for individuals and organizations engaged in prison ministry, and provide information to the Cherry Hills congregation that will facilitate their becoming part of prayer teams
- Offer training and support to the Cherry Hills congregation who wish to participate in prison ministry, using training from Prison Fellowship, Good News and others deemed appropriate to each ministry opportunity
- Endeavor to do this to honor Jesus Christ, building up and encouraging those involved through this ministry and growing the Kingdom of God, as we put our faith into action.
