Poverty and disease plague the entire country of Uganda, but suffering is worst in northern Uganda, where the rebel group called the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) has battled the Government of Uganda for more than 21 years. During this time, more than 1.2 million Ugandans have been displaced and tens of thousands have been killed.

Since 1987, an estimated 25,000 children have been kidnapped by the LRA for use as child soldiers and slaves. These innocent children are brutalized and mutilated, forced to commit atrocities, and given as sex slaves to military commanders. Those who attempt to escape are killed. Fearing abduction, streams of children leave their homes every night and walk for hours from surrounding villages to reach the relative safety of major towns, only to trek their way home in the first light. Some 40,000 “night commuters” sleep under verandas, in schools, hospital courtyards or bus parking places to evade the snare of the LRA.
A significant number of people fled to IDP Camps - Internationally Displaced Persons. These camps have tens of thousands of inhabitants living in crowded, dirty, poor circumstances. Food is scarce with much of the population relying on foreign aid.
Join us as we travel to Gulu to work alongside pastors and community leaders. Let’s bring them HOPE. Let’s walk alongside them and learn from them and pray with them. When we can and when we are able, let’s lend a helping hand but the rest of the time let’s listen and ask God to show us what to do next as a church. How can He use us to help the Acholi people to become independent once again?
How can He use them to encourage us to grow as disciples of Christ and how can God use us to encourage the Acholi in their faith?
Ministry Opportunities
- A three day Church Plant mission in one of the villages in which we could have a long-term partnership in development. CHCC would partner with this church to be used of God to disciple it, to reach the community with the gospel, and also to be channels of development and transformation. CHCC would work alongside local volunteers to construct a temporary worship shelter, using local materials.
- Visit and minister in an existing church in Kidikal Village.
- Minister to women in the church and community through a one-day Women’s Conference/Seminar.
- Empower village or church leaders through a one or two day pastor/leader seminar.
- Meet with different church groups, especially those affected or infected by HIV/AIDS that are involved in income generating activities to assess their needs and help them out of poverty.
- If a music team is raised up, ministry using music as a tool of communication could take place in schools. Could also hold a youth rally to reach and empower
