Nicaragua, plagued with a series of wars, national disasters, political instability, and economic nosedives, might easily be considered one of the more problematic nations in the hemisphere. It is the second poorest country in Central America, with severe health and under-employment problems, yet known for the friendliness and warmth of the people. It is home to outstanding authors, poets, and painters, scattered through a nation blessed with national resources, two magnificent coast lines, 17 volcanoes, the largest fresh water island in the world, 4 distinct ethnic groups and the city of Granada sited as the oldest city in the western hemisphere.
Verbo Ministries is located in Puerto Cabezas on the northeastern coast of Nicaragua and has been ministering in the area since 1982. God has lead the ministry to not only focus on the church, but to include two schools which reach out to more than 1200 students, and an orphanage (childrenʼs home) and discipleship home which serve more than 74 children.
Since September 4, 2007, Verbo has been involved in Hurricane Felix Relief and Reconstruction, building homes, straightening leaning homes, and replacing roofs. Verbo has adopted the neighboring community of Batania, which received extensive devastation from the hurricane. Not only has Verbo committed to rebuilding the homes of the community, but to continue to share the love of Christ as they work. They have been able to complete over 80 homes in Batania, with a goal of 112.

A long term need for the region is clean water. The wells are shallow and thus contaminated by ground water. The potential for intestinal problems and skin problems rises dramatically with this water hazard. It is Verboʼs hope to be able to drill wells in several communities to improve their living conditions.
Ministry Opportunities
Will work in an orphanage doing crafts, soccer and other activities. Some light construction in new orphanage.
